What is ABS?

ABS (Anti-lock braking system) is an electronic system that monitors and controls the speed of the vehicle during braking, with the main task of preventing wheel locking due to excessive braking force (especially on smooth surfaces), ensuring driving stability and steering control of the vehicle as well as optimum coordination of the braking of the main trailer.ABS works through the conventional braking system. ABS works through the conventional braking system to improve the active safety of the vehicle.

What are the advantages of ABS?

(1) Maintains manoeuvrability in the direction of the vehicle during emergency braking;
(2) Shortens and optimises the braking distance;
(3) ABS prevents wheel locking during braking and reduces tyre wear;
(4) The ASR function improves starting performance;
(5) Reduces traffic accidents;
(6) It reduces the driver’s mental burden.

ABS solenoid air circuit failure, how to troubleshoot?

Air leaks:

Keep the air pressure in the vehicle’s braking system greater than 8 bar, apply the brake to the brake pedal and apply soapy water to the inlet connector, outlet connector and exhaust port of the suspected faulty ABS solenoid valve to see if any air bubbles are produced. If the connector is leaking, tighten the torque or replace the connector assembly. If the exhaust port is leaking, replace the ABS solenoid.

ABS alarm:

Observe the ABS indicator light on the road, on a flat surface, the speed is greater than 40KM / H emergency braking, observe the drag marks, clear roller marks or intermittent drag marks indicate that the ABS is working. Otherwise, the ABS indicator light is on and there are drag marks on the corresponding wheels, so it is necessary to use 6-in-1 to test.

Note: After starting the vehicle for the first time or after the system has been diagnosed, if there is no fault, the ABS light will not go out until the vehicle speed is greater than 7km/h

Connect the diagnostic interface with the 6-in-1 tool to read the system faults, and check the ABS solenoid valve, ABS sensor, gear ring, and related wiring harnesses according to the faults read; keep the air pressure of the vehicle’s braking system greater than 8bar, apply full brakes to the brake pedal, and turn on the ignition switch. At this time, the ABS system will carry out self-test, ABS solenoid valve exhaust, the order of the right front – left rear – left front – right rear a total of four sounds.

If the exhaust sound is normal, it means that the solenoid valve receives instructions from the circuit control part and the air circuit are normal. If the exhaust sound is less than four, then measure the ABS solenoid valve resistance. Unscrew the ABS solenoid circuit connector, measure the resistance between the solenoid valve 6.1 and 6.2, 6.2 and 6.3 pins, between 14-15.5Ω is normal, otherwise replace the ABS solenoid valve;

Check whether there are foreign objects between the sensor and the gear ring to cause the gap between the two brackets is large, the normal gap is less than 0.7mm, the sensor resistance between 1100-1250Ω, turn the wheel by hand at a constant speed, when the speed is greater than 30r/min, the sensor voltage must be greater than 0.20V, the ratio of the maximum voltage to the minimum voltage should be ≤ 2.0. such as the gap is too large, adjust the gap, the sensor resistance or output voltage does not meet, then replace the sensor. If the gap is large, adjust the gap, sensor resistance or output voltage does not meet, then replace the sensor.

Check the ABS solenoid valve, sensors and other wire harnesses for wear and tear caused by short-circuit and other problems.

fault resolution

  • 1 or 2 port leakage to replace the leakage joint assembly or tightening torque
  • 3 port air leakage directly replace the ABS solenoid valve
