Located a few miles north of Guangzhou City, White Cloud Mountain(Baiyun Mountain Scenic Spot) is listed top of the things to do outside the city since the ancient times. Covering a total area of 28 square kilometers, White Cloud Mountain is famous for its veil-like clouds rising during the late spring and autumn. The White Cloud Mountain consists of more than 30 peaks, among which the Moxing peak is the tallest with the height of 382 meters. The White Cloud Mountain (Baiyun Mountain Scenic Spot) can be divided into six parts with the marked spots of each small area Mingzhu Building, Moxing Peak, Mingchun Valley, Santai Peak, Luhu Lake and Fei'e Peak. Inside the whole area, there is cable car from the Luhu Lake at the foot at mountain to the top. Different restaurants, teahouses and BBQ facility are available on the mountain. The newly constructed Shanbei Park and courtyard hostel can meet your demand well. For the local, White Cloud Mountain (Baiyun Mountain Scenic Spot) is also the ideal place for climbing in the Double-ninth Day.

If you do not want to climb the mountain by foot, you can also choose to take the cable car to reach the top of the mountain. The Baiyun Cableway is the first bicable ropeway in the country, and there are 80 cars with 6 passengers seats in each car. The lower station is located east of Yuntai Garden and the upper station is at the Peak Park, with a difference of 198 meters (about 650 feet) in altitude and are located 1,672 meters (5,486 feet) away from each other. The cable cars of Baiyun Cableway pass by scenic views like a barbecue zone, Pu Valley, the Cloudy Valley, Nengren Temple and so on, and Guangzhou City can be seen clearly from the summit.
- Moxing Ridge (摩星岭)

The highest peak of Baiyun Mountain, often called “the First Peak under the Southern Sky.” After a short hike or cable car ride, you’ll reach an observation platform offering unobstructed views of Guangzhou’s skyline—on clear days, you can see the Canton Tower and Pearl River. There’s also a stone monument inscribed with poems about the mountain and a small temple dedicated to the mountain god. Arrive early to catch the sunrise or avoid midday crowds.
- Mingchun Valley (鸣春谷)

Asia’s largest aviary, home to over 1,500 birds of 130 species, including red-crowned cranes, flamingos, and peacocks. The highlight is the 1,200-square-meter free-flight hall, where birds soar freely overhead. Don’t miss the daily bird shows (10:00 AM and 2:30 PM) featuring intelligent parrots performing tricks like solving puzzles and riding bicycles. It’s a perfect stop for families with kids.
- Yuntai Garden (云台花园)
A beautifully landscaped botanical garden at the foot of Baiyun Mountain, known for its seasonal flower displays. Spring brings tulips and cherry blossoms, while autumn features chrysanthemums. The central “Sunflower Garden” and the European-style fountain square are popular photo spots. There’s also a greenhouse with tropical plants and a lake where you can rent paddle boats for a relaxing ride.
- Feixia Cave (飞霞洞)
A scenic spot with natural rock formations, waterfalls, and ancient stone carvings. The cave itself is cool and shady, making it a nice retreat on hot days. Outside, a winding stone path leads to a pavilion overlooking a pond dotted with lotus flowers. It’s less crowded than other attractions, ideal for those seeking tranquility and natural beauty.
- Baiyun Cable Car (白云山索道)

Not just a transportation option, but an attraction in itself. The 1,672-meter-long cable car takes you from the foot of the mountain to Moxing Ridge in about 20 minutes, offering stunning aerial views of the forest and city below. The cabins are spacious and safe, with large windows for photography. It’s a great choice for those who want to save energy while enjoying the scenery.
1. Easy Route (Family-Friendly, 1.5-2 Hours): Start at the South Gate and stroll through Yuntai Garden to admire seasonal flowers. Then take the Baiyun Cable Car (20 minutes) directly to Moxing Ridge. After enjoying the panoramic views, you can either take the cable car down or walk the gentle downhill path (40 minutes) to the South Gate. This route minimizes walking and is perfect for families with young children or visitors who prefer a relaxed experience.
2. Moderate Route (Scenic Hike, 3-4 Hours): Begin at the North Gate and follow the well-paved trail to Feixia Cave—look out for ancient stone carvings and the lotus pond pavilion along the way. Next, head to Mingchun Valley to watch the bird show and explore the aviary. From there, take the winding mountain path to Moxing Ridge, passing through lush forests and small scenic viewpoints. The total elevation gain is about 300 meters, with gentle to moderate slopes suitable for most hikers.
3. Challenging Route (Adventure Hike, 4-5 Hours): For experienced hikers, start at East Gate and take the Wuyun Mountain Trail, a less-crowded path with steeper sections. Along the way, you’ll pass Luogang Waterfall (a small but picturesque cascade) and Shiyun Pavilion (a historic rest stop with mountain views). Continue to Moxing Ridge for the summit view, then descend via the moderate route to the North Gate. This route offers more solitude and a closer connection to nature but requires good physical fitness.
Hiking Tips: Wear comfortable non-slip shoes, as some trails can be slippery after rain. Bring plenty of water (at least 500ml per person) and light snacks like energy bars. Apply sunscreen and insect repellent, especially in summer. Trail signs are mostly in Chinese, so it’s helpful to download a map or take screenshots of the route in advance. Rest pavilions are available every 1-2 kilometers for breaks.
Easy Route: South Gate → Yuntai Garden → Cable Car to Moxing Ridge (suitable for families or those short on time).
Moderate Route: North Gate → Feixia Cave → Mingchun Valley → Moxing Ridge (3-4 hours, with scenic stops along the way).
Wear comfortable hiking shoes and bring sunscreen, a hat, and water—Guangzhou’s weather can be hot and humid. Picnicking is allowed in designated areas, but please take your trash with you to keep the mountain clean.
