Sun Island Scenic Area is located by northern shore of Songhua River in downtown Harbin. Sun Island Park covers an area of 15 square kilometers and is featured by cultural attractions and natural landscapes. In the north of the scenic area is Sun Island Park, which contains several small animals and plants areas and landscape Lakes. The southern part is featured with museums, galleries and Russian style architecture.
 

Spring

As the ice and snow melt, the flowers and plants of Sun Island are the first to awaken. Everything on the island revives, lush and green, with hundreds of flowers blooming in profusion. Lilacs, ice flowers, and other blossoms compete to display their delicate fragrance, which drifts across the entire island on the river breeze. The river breeze still carries a chill, but the willows have sprouted tender green buds, and in the distant wetlands, migratory birds returning home skim across the water, adding boundless vitality to the island.

You can bring a picnic blanket, sit on the lawn, listen to the sound of the flowing river, bask in the warm sunshine, and enjoy the leisurely time of spring. You can also stroll through the sea of ​​flowers, admire the various blossoms, and take photos to commemorate the moment.
 

Summer

Even in the height of summer heat, Sun Island retains a pleasant coolness thanks to the surrounding river. The island is shaded by lush trees, with ancient trees reaching for the sky; century-old elms stretch out their abundant branches, weaving a dense canopy of green. In the natural wetlands, reeds sway in the wind, creating layers of green waves, occasionally disturbed by wild ducks swimming out from the reeds. On summer evenings, the setting sun gilds the Songhua River, and a refreshing breeze carries its coolness.

You can visit the giant panda enclosure to see "Cheese" and "Sesame," watching them lazily nibble on bamboo and roll around affectionately. In the evening, stroll along the riverside street, following the river breeze, or fish and sing along the riverbank. You can also choose to go boating on the lake and enjoy the cool water.
 

Autumn

As the autumn wind blows, the trees on the island don their magnificent attire: golden ginkgo leaves, fiery red maple leaves, and orange-yellow oaks, transforming the entire island into a palette of colors spilled on the ground. Strolling along the forest paths, the thick carpet of fallen leaves rustles underfoot. Climbing the observation tower on Sun Island, one can gaze into the distance and see the entire island resemble a richly colored oil painting, with the Songhua River winding around it like a blue ribbon.

You can stroll along the wooden boardwalk of Swan Lake, feel the tranquility and beauty of autumn, and capture stunning autumn scenery such as golden leaves in the morning light and the river surface under the sunset with your camera. It is an excellent choice for photography enthusiasts.
 

Winter

When Harbin transforms into a city of ice and jade sculptures, Sun Island attracts visitors from all over with its unique snowy scenery. The snow here, nourished by the river, is exceptionally white and delicate. The annual Sun Island Snow Sculpture Festival pushes ice and snow art to its limits, with artists sculpting magnificent castles, adorable animals, and figures from mythology from the snow. At night, when the lights come on, the ice and snow sculptures, illuminated by colorful lights, create a dreamlike and enchanting scene.

You can admire the exquisite snow sculptures at the Snow Expo and take photos. You can also participate in a variety of ice activities, such as ice skating, snowmobiling, and dog sledding, and unleash your passion.

How to Get to Sun Island

1. Metro: Take Metro Line 2 and get off at Sun Island Station. Exit through Gates 2 or 3, and you will directly reach Sun Stone Plaza, the entrance of the scenic area. This is the most convenient and time-saving option, especially during peak hours.

2. Bus and Shuttle Bus: Regular buses like Route 13 and 18 stop near the scenic area. For direct access, take the Sun Island Scenic Area Shuttle Bus (seasonal operation from May 1 to October 7, 9:00-17:00). It runs a circular route connecting Central Ecological Parking Lot, Science and Technology Museum, Sun Avenue, and Sun Stone Plaza, with fares at 2 yuan. During weekends and holidays, the interval is shortened to 5-8 minutes for better convenience.

3. Sightseeing Cableway: Enjoy a panoramic view of the Songhua River by taking the cableway from Swan Castle at 218 Tongjiang Street (Daoli District) to Sun Castle at 18 Fengjing Street (Songbei District), near the scenic area's Gate 3. During holidays, the operating hours are extended to 8:30-21:30.

4. Self-Driving: Navigate to Sun Island Scenic Area. There are three parking lots available: Sun Stone Plaza Parking Lot (549 spaces), Central Parking Lot (860 spaces), and West Parking Lot (about 1,500 spaces, near Ice and Snow World). To avoid congestion, it is recommended to park at the West Parking Lot and transfer to the free metro for a seamless journey.
