Jinghong Primitive Forest Park

8 km away from downtown, Jinghong Primitive Forest Park(Chinese name: 西双版纳景洪原始森林公园) covers an area of over 16.5 square kilometers, is one of the biggest Ecotourism Travel Spots in Xishuangbanna. The garden well combines the unique natural scenery and ethnic folklore, includes many popular attractions like the well-preserved tropical forest, research base of peacock, waterfall and minority villages, Buddhism pagoda and big granite sculpture. Etc.

In this park, if you are interested, you can also join a very special activity – hunting as primitive people. Hunter can choose crossbow or archery or even bare-handed to chase and hunt the farm-raised animals.

1. Tropical Rainforest Landscape

Jinghong Primitive Forest Park spans an impressive 26,310 mu (about 17.5 square kilometers) with a forest coverage rate of 98.6%, making it one of the best-preserved tropical rainforests south of the Tropic of Cancer. Visitors can follow wooden walkways deep into the forest to marvel at unique tropical phenomena such as buttress roots, strangler figs, cauliflory (flowers growing directly from trunks), and single trees forming small forests. The lush vegetation, chirping birds, and moist air create an immersive experience that highlights the mystery and vitality of tropical nature.

2. Peacock Flying Show

The Peacock Flying Show is one of the park’s most famous attractions and a must-see performance in Xishuangbanna. At several scheduled times each day, hundreds of peacocks soar gracefully from the mountaintop across the shimmering lake, accompanied by traditional Dai music and dancing. The vibrant spectacle, filled with colors and rhythm, symbolizes good fortune and happiness in Dai culture.

3. Aini Village

Aini Village showcases the ethnic culture of the Hani (Aini) people, one of Yunnan’s most distinctive minority groups. Here, visitors can join interactive folk activities such as bamboo pole dancing and toe-clamping dance, learn about the Aini’s traditional way of life, admire intricate ethnic costumes, and purchase handmade bamboo crafts and silver jewelry. The village provides an excellent opportunity to understand the diversity and hospitality of local ethnic communities.

4. Rainforest Cultural Square

The Rainforest Cultural Square serves as the park’s cultural heart. It features a large open-air performance stage where ethnic groups such as the Dai and Hani regularly perform traditional dances like the Peacock Dance and Elephant Foot Drum Dance. Visitors can also take part in the Rainforest Splash Carnival, a lively water-splashing festival that recreates the joy and spirit of the Dai New Year celebration. 5. Mekong River Underwater World

The Mekong River Underwater World presents a fascinating glimpse into the aquatic ecosystem of the Lancang-Mekong River. Through a glass tunnel, visitors can watch rare aquatic species such as Chinese sturgeons and jellyfish, and enjoy mermaid performances and a thrilling 7D underwater film experience. The park provides eco-friendly sightseeing shuttle buses with round-trip tickets priced at 60 RMB per person. These shuttles make stops at major attractions throughout the park, making it convenient for visitors to explore each site comfortably.

The park is open year-round, but the best visiting period is from April to November, when the weather is warm and humid, and the rainforest appears particularly lush and vibrant.
