Mochou Lake Park

Established in 1928, Mochou Lake is one of the largest lakes in Nanjing. During the Song and Yuan dynasties, Mochou Lake was known as the first lake in Jinling(ancient name of Nanjing). And the gardens in the Mochou Lake area are one of the most famous gardens in Nanjing. As one of the main parks in Nanjing, you can see the typical buildings of classical gardens, pavilions, flowers and trees at the Mochou Lake Park.
 

Mochou Lake

Mochou Lake is one of the main lakes of Nanjing. Located in the Shuiximen Street of Jianye District, Mochou Lake is about 680 meters long from north to south and 770 meters from east to west.
 

What to See at Mochou Lake Park

Mochou Shuiyuan

At the Mochou Shuiyuan, you can see the pavilions, corridor and lake. And the sculpture of Mochou, which is made of Han white marble. Mouchou Lake is named to memorize Mochou, a famous female in China. At the Mochou Shuiyuan, you can appreciate the sculpture of the Mochou in different angles. At the Mochou Shuiyuan, you can see some inscriptions of some famous scholars of China.

Tulip Hall

Tulip Hall was rebuilt in 1793. Yujin Hall was destroyed in the war. And in 1871, Tulip Hall was rebuilt again. It is said that Mochou likes the fragrance of the tulip, and the name of Tulip Hall comes from it.
 

Shengqi Pavilion

It is said that Shengqi Pavilion got its name because of the Zhu Yuanzhang, the emperor of the Ming Dynasty. Zhu Yuanzhang and Xu Da used to play chess at this pavilion. While playing chess, though Zhu Yuanzhang failed, but he was very happy because of Xu Da. The Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang awarded this pavilion and Mochou Lake to Xu Da. And Zhu Yuanzhang named the pavilion Shengqi Pavilion, which means victory in playing chess. Shengqi Pavilion was destroyed in the war. In 1871, it was rebuilt.
 

Huayan Temple

Huayan Temple is an ancient temple in the south of Mochou Lake. In 1793, the Huayan Temple was repaired and expanded with tens of buildings. And the Shengqi Pavilion an Huxin Pavilion is inside the Huayan Temple. Huayan Temple was destroyed in the war. In 1864, the Huayan Temple was rebuilt. With pavilions, lotus and lake, Huayan Temple is a place for tourists to have a rest.
 

Baoyue Building

Baoyue Building is located in the southwest of the Mochou Lake. It was built in 1960 and finished in 1983. the second floor of the Baoyue Building is the best place to enjoy the wonderful view of the mist and rain on the Mochou Lake, which is the top of the forty-eight views of Jiling(ancient name of Nanjing). At the second floor of the Baoyue Building, you can taste a cup of tea, enjoy the lotus blossom and see the Huxin Pavilion in the distance.
 

Zoulu Pavilion

Zoulu Pavilion, also known as Zhuisi Pavilion, is a octagonal pavilion. You can have a rest at the Zoulu Pavilion if you are tired in the Mochou Lake Park. Sitting on the chairs of the Zoulu Pavilion, you can see the tourists passing by, boats on the Xuanwu Lake, flowers and trees near the pavilion. Zoulu Pavilion is a nice destination if you want to sit for a while and have a rest. You can immerse yourselves at the Zoulu Pavilion.

Know About the Story of Mochou

It is said that Michou is a beautiful lady with many skills. She could spin and weave, gather medicinal herbs. She got married with a wealthy merchant. Unfortunately, her husband left home and they didn’t get message from her husband any more. And their family were no longer rich after the change. But she helped their neighbour and helped many persons at that time. She liked the tulips very much, and people called her house Tulip Hall. To memorize her, Mochou Lake was named after her. After her death, the emperor wrote a poetry to memorize her. The poetry was engraved on the tablet in the Tulip Hall.
