How to Get to China Snow Town/Village from Harbin, Heilongjiang

China Snow Town,also known as Zhong Guo Xue Xiang or "Home of Snow," was originally built as a junior ski field at Shuangfeng Forest Farm, under the jurisdiction of Dahailin Forest Bureau in Hailin City. It is located about 5 km west of Changting Town, Hailin City (which is under the jurisdiction of Mudanjiang City), in northeastern China. The distance from Harbin, the capital of Heilongjiang Province, to China Snow Town is approximately 290 kilometers (about 180 miles), making it a 5 to 6-hour drive.

By Car Rental (Highly Recommended)

Driving to China Snow Town by private car is one of the most flexible and convenient options, as it allows you to explore at your own pace. There are two main routes you can take

  • Xue Xiang Highway (Harbin-Haining-Wuchang-Changting-China Snow Town)
    This route is about 280 kilometers long, taking approximately 5-6 hours to drive one-way. It is the most direct route to China Snow Town.

  • Ya Xue Highway (Harbin-Yabuli-Yaxue Road-China Snow Town)
    This road is about 285 kilometers long, with a travel time of 5-6 hours. While slightly longer, this route passes through the popular Yabuli Ski Resort, where you can stop for skiing before heading to China Snow Town. The road conditions along Ya Xue Highway are generally better, and the views are more picturesque, making it a great option for those looking to enjoy the scenery.
     

By Bus

For a more affordable option, you can take a direct bus from Harbin to China Snow Town, which operates only in winter. The bus ride takes approximately 5 hours and 40 minutes one-way.

Direct Bus from Harbin to China Snow Town

  • Harbin - Snow Town: CNY 120

  • Harbin - Yabuli: CNY 70

  • Yabuli - Snow Town: CNY 80

If you want to save money, you can also take a bus from Harbin Railway Station (the bus station on the right side of the station) to Changting Town first. Afterward, you can either hire a taxi or take a bus at Linye Passenger Station to reach China Snow Town. Keep in mind that the number of buses is limited, so it’s recommended to book your tickets in advance and check the schedule at the bus station.


When there is no direct bus and you want to save money, you may take bus from the bus station in Harbin (the one that is located in the right side of Harbin Railway Station) to Changting Town first. As there is still some distance from Changting to China Snow Town, then could hire a taxi in the town or take bus at Linye (forestry) Passenger Station to the China Snow Town.

Note: the number of buses traveling from Harbin to China Snow Town every day is quite limited, you may book the bus ticket as early as possible. Bus schedule of the bus may change, you can check the bus schedule when you get to the bus station.

By Train (not recommended)

Currently, there is no direct train from Harbin to China Snow Town. The nearest train stations are in Hailin or Mudanjiang, which are both around 5–6 hours from Harbin by train. After arriving at either station, you will need to take a taxi or local bus to reach China Snow Town, which will take another 1.5–2 hours.


Recommended Itinerary (2-Day Trip)

If you're planning to visit China Snow Town, it's best to take a 2-day trip from Harbin. Here's a suggested itinerary:

  • Day 1:

    • Start early in the morning from Harbin. The 5–6-hour drive or bus ride will bring you to China Snow Town (Shuangfeng Forest Farm). After arriving, take in the magnificent snow-covered landscapes, and enjoy activities like skiing, snowboarding, and sledding.

    • Don’t forget to explore Xueyun Avenue, the bustling street lined with shops and inns, and take photos of the charming, snow-covered houses.

  • Day 2:

    • Start your morning by heading up to Yangcao Mountain, the highest peak in the area at 1,350 meters (4,429 feet). This is the best spot to enjoy sunrise or sunset and offers panoramic views of the surrounding snow-covered hills and valleys.

    • After enjoying the stunning views, you can walk along Xueyun Avenue again for some last-minute shopping or exploration.

    • In the afternoon, begin your journey back to Harbin.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit China Snow Town is from December to March, when the area is covered in thick snow, creating a winter wonderland. During this period, you can enjoy winter sports like skiing, snowboarding, and sledding. The average temperature during this period is around -20°C (-4°F), so make sure to pack warm clothing.

  • Chinese New Year (Spring Festival) is a particularly good time to visit, as the town is beautifully decorated with red lanterns and streamers. At night, you can enjoy the fireworks show, adding to the festive atmosphere.
