Central Street, formerly known as China Street, was built in 1898. It stretches from the Songhua River Flood Control Memorial Tower in the north to Jingwei Street in the south. There are 71 European-style and European imitative buildings on both sides of the street, and 13 of them are municipal-level protected buildings of various styles such as Renaissance, Baroque, Eclecticism, and Modern. Paved with granite bricks, the street is filled with a strong European charm. Tourists can not only appreciate the architectural art but also taste Russian cuisine and the famous Madieer popsicles.
Located 177 km southeast from Harbin, Yabuli Ski Resort, is China's largest ski resort. It hosted the 1996 Winter Asian Games, the 2008 National Winter Games and the 2009 Winter Universiade. The best time to ski at Yabuli Ski Resort is from November to late March of the next year.
This ski resort provides great skiing with high mountains and good snow. Local skiers enjoy the high elevation and the fact that the snow is neither too hard nor too powdery. The lowest temperature is -47.2 F. Because of the high elevation, snow falls for a long period of about 170 days. There are 11 primary, intermediate and advanced ski runs. The 500-meter-long beginner trails are creatively designed with technical aids available enabling first timers to have their first try and other beginners to progress. The advanced trail 3080 meters in length set 1374 meters above sea level with the vertical drop of 804 meters that will give expert skiers the challenge they are looking for.
Saint Sophia Cathedral is a former Russian Orthodox Church in Harbin and is the largest Eastern Orthodox Church in the Far East. This magnificent structure was built in 1907 reflecting Byzantine architectural features with 721 square meters in area and 53.35 meters in height. It is rated as a First class Preserved Building and has already been in Harbin for more than 100 years.
St. Sophia Church was built and completed of timber as part of a plan to reconsolidate the confidence of the army by building an imposing spiritual symbol. In 1923, Saint Sophia Cathedral was expanded and renovated with a project of nine years. And since this time, it has kelp this appearance till nowadays.
Sun Island Park covers 15 square kilometers and is featured by cultural attractions and natural landscapes. This park consists of one big island and some smaller islands in the Songhua River, which meander through the north of Harbin. It covers a total area of 3,800 hectares.
In summer, the island serves as a natural river beach swimming resort and sanatorium area. The island boasts several fine beaches on either bank, such as a profusion of lakes for boating, swimming pools, sunbathing facilities, a fairground, a water world and an arms museum. Dragon Tower, Heilongjiang Broadcast and TV Tower, built in 2000, is a tall tower of lattice steel used for communication. At 336 meters high, it ranks as the 22nd highest in the world and the seventh highest in Asia. Awarded the title of Grade-AAAA tourist sight by the State Tourism administration, the Dragon Tower has become a landmark of Harbin and Heilongjiang Province.
Dragon Tower is a comprehensive multifunctional tower that integrates transmission of broadcast and TV, tourism, sightseeing, food and beverage service, advertisement propagation, environmental and meteorological monitoring, microwave telecommunication and wireless communication together.
The Harbin Music Promenade is China's first professional music-themed park and a popular tourist destination in Harbin. It is located on the west side of Youyi Road in the Qunli New Area. The 3-kilometer riverside walkway is lined with more than 200 music-themed sculptures, such as pianos, violins, and musical notes. There is also a central stage that can accommodate 5,000 people and an open lawn suitable for picnics. In winter, the 18-meter-tall snowman here becomes an internet-famous attraction, attracting many tourists to take photos.
The Chinese Baroque Block in Harbin is the largest and most complete complex of its kind in China. The buildings here feature a combination of Baroque-style exteriors with Chinese-style courtyards inside, embodying the integration of Chinese and Western cultures. With a total area of 328,000 square meters, the block is full of historical and cultural heritages, witnessing the historical changes of the city. The Heilongjiang Provincial Museum of Ethnic Minorities, located within the Harbin Confucian Temple, was established in 1985 and is China's first provincial-level specialized museum of ethnic minorities. A national first-class museum, it houses nearly 10,000 artifacts. The museum showcases the unique cultures of various ethnic minorities in Heilongjiang Province, such as the fishing and hunting culture of the Hezhe people, the pastoral culture of the Mongolian people, and the shamanistic culture of the Manchu people. The Confucian Temple itself is also a classic Qing Dynasty architectural masterpiece of high artistic value.
