Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport is located at the Lianglu Town of Yubei District, 21 km away from Chongqing downtown. Jiangbei Airport is one of the three largest airports in southwest China, also one of the ten largest airports in China, and also one of the top hundred airports in the world.
Jiangbei International Airport is one of the three civil airports in Chongqing. It is also the main base airport of Chongqing Airlines, West Air Co., LTD, China Express Airlines, and base airport of Sichuan Airlines, Air China and China Southern Airlines.

Development History of Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport
- January 22, 1990: The airport officially opened to replace the old Baishiyi Airport and was named Chongqing Jiangbei Airport. At that time, it had one runway and Terminal 1.
- March 1998: Renamed Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport.
- December 2004: Terminal 2 was completed and became the main terminal for domestic flights.
- 2010: The second runway entered service, marking the beginning of dual-runway operations.
- August 29, 2017: Terminal 3A and the third runway were put into operation. The airport was upgraded to a 4F-class international airport, while Terminal 1 ceased passenger operations and was converted for supporting and cargo-related functions.
- December 26, 2024: The fourth runway officially opened, making Jiangbei Airport the first airport in western and central China with four runways.
- April 9, 2025: Terminal 3B, the world's largest standalone satellite terminal, began operation. In December 2025, all domestic and international passenger flights were consolidated into the Terminal 3 complex, while Terminal 2 was temporarily suspended for future redevelopment
Terminal Layout (2026)
As of 2026, Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport operates with three terminal buildings, one satellite terminal, and four runways.
Terminal 1 and Terminal 2
Following the passenger operation adjustment completed in December 2025, all domestic and international flights have been transferred to the Terminal 3 complex. Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 currently do not handle passenger services and are planned for future renovation and redevelopment. Terminal 2 has not been permanently closed and may be reactivated to accommodate future passenger growth.
Terminal 3 Complex (T3A + T3B)
The Terminal 3 area is now the airport's sole passenger operation zone.
Terminal 3A
Terminal 3A serves as the main processing terminal for all passengers, including:
• Check-in services
• Baggage drop-off
• Security screening
• Arrival baggage claim
Passengers can check in either on the B1 level (connected to Metro Line 10) or on the 4th-floor departure level.
The terminal is divided into several check-in islands according to airlines:
• Island 3D: Sichuan Airlines
• Island 3F: China Southern Airlines and Chongqing Airlines
• Island 3G: Hainan Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, West Air and several partner airlines
• Island 3H: Air China, Shandong Airlines, Shenzhen Airlines and Tibet Airlines
• Island 3J: China Express Airlines, Xiamen Airlines, Spring Airlines, Juneyao Airlines and many regional carriers
Terminal 3A is directly connected with Metro Lines 3 and 10 and the airport railway station, allowing seamless transfers between air and rail transportation.
Terminal 3B Satellite Terminal
Terminal 3B is currently the largest standalone satellite terminal in the world, covering approximately 363,000 square meters. Unlike Terminal 3A, T3B does not provide check-in, baggage drop, or security screening services. It is dedicated to:
• Aircraft boarding and deplaning
• Passenger waiting areas
• Commercial and leisure facilities
Passengers whose boarding gates begin with J, K, L, or M must first complete check-in and security procedures at T3A and then take an automated people mover (APM) to T3B.
The driverless transit system connects T3A and T3B in approximately 3 minutes, while the maximum walking distance to a boarding gate is less than 500 meters.
The terminal incorporates local Bayu cultural elements, themed public spaces, large-scale murals, observation areas, self-service facilities, facial-recognition boarding systems, and intelligent airport management technologies.
Terminal Transfer Information
Free shuttle buses operate between Terminal 2 and Terminal 3.
• T2 Boarding Point: Arrival Gates 4 and 7
• T3 Boarding Point: Gate 9 on Level L1
The shuttle buses generally depart every 5–15 minutes. Passengers can also use Chongqing Metro Line 10 between the terminal areas, with operating hours from 06:30 to 22:30.

During the 2025–2026 winter and spring schedule season, the airport operated approximately 233 domestic routes, serving 129 cities across China. The network covers all provincial capitals, major first- and second-tier cities, and many destinations in western and border regions such as Xinjiang, Tibet, and Yunnan.
International and Regional Routes
The airport operates approximately 64 international and regional routes connecting 35 overseas destinations, including:
• Southeast Asia: Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Yangon and others
• East Asia: Japan and South Korea
• Middle East destinations
• Europe: Brussels and Budapest
• Oceania: Auckland
The airport also supports long-haul passenger services and international cargo routes linking Chongqing with Europe, South Asia, and other global markets.

The airport is connected to downtown Chongqing through the Airport Expressway and other major highways, providing convenient road access throughout the city.
Best Places to visit in Chongqing:
Dazu Rock Carvings is one of the most famous attractions on Chongqing. There are more than 4,600 carved stone figures kept relating mainly to Buddhis, partially are Taoism figures.
Ciqikou is now a busy tourist attraction that located the suburbs of Chongqing, one hour drive from downtown.
Fengdu is known as the “Ghost City”, one of the most famous Taoist sightseeing spots on northern bank of Yangtze River, with a history of over 1,700 years.
