Yarlung Zangbo River, the world highest river, turns south suddenly in Mainling County and cuts the Himalayas Mountain into two sections. Then the river runs through a narrow passage between the two 7,000-meter high peaks of Namjagbarwa and Jialabailei, forming the deepest, narrowest and longest canyon in the world- the Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon(Chinese name:雅鲁藏布大峡谷) which stretches 496 km long and averages over 5,000 m deep. The diversified climatic zones distributed vertically in the canyon determine its vertical distribution of diversified vegetation and numerous wild animals. Taohua Island, formerly Yusong Island, is an island in the middle of the river at the beginning of Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon, which is formed by the accumulation of water, waves and river sand, covering an area of about 160 mu and a length of 720 meters. It is the only small island in Milin, where you can get close to Yarlung Zangbo River. It is also the best place to view the river and snow-capped mountains.
To get to the Taohua Island, you can take boat at the Paizhen Wharf. On the way to the Taohua Island, you can look up at the deep and magnificent Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon, and you can also see the reflection of the Namcha Barwa Peak on the river.
After getting to the island, you can hike around the island on the plank road about 1.4 kilometers back and forth. Daduka site is located at the entrance of Paizhen in Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon. Namcha Barwa Base Camp is located in the mixed zone of coniferous forest and broad-leaved forest. It is a tent camp famous for light hiking. There is a forest hiking route here, which is 3-4 kilometers. In summer, hiking near the Namcha Barwa Base Camp, there are many colorful flowers. In autumn, you can see the autumn foliage when trakking here. The scenery is extremely beautiful. At the same time, Namcha Barwa Base Camp is also the closest mountain viewing point to Namcha Barwa.
Nalacuo hiking route is the most classic hiking route in Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon. Known as the "tears of Namcha Barwa", Nalacuo Lake is hidden in the deep valley between Namcha Barwa and Duoxiongla Snow Mountain, and it is also the end of this hiking route. Autumn is a good time to hike this route.
Hiking on this 24-kilometer route, you can not only see alpine glaciers, lakes, tundra and flowing stone beaches, but also enjoy Namcha Barwa from different angles and the most primitive autumn scenery of the Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon. Suosong Village, located halfway up the north bank of Yarlung Zangbo River, is one of the most beautiful villages in China. It is adjacent to Namcha Barwa Peak in the south and Yarlung Zangbo River in the north which is one of the best places to view snow mountains and Yarlung Zangbo River.
Everything at Suosong Village is beautiful. Such as the sunrise and sunset at Namcha Barwa Peak, Yarlung Zangbo River under the vast Milky Way and forest-stained mountains and scattered village cottages. Standing on the land of Suosong Village, every picture you see is worthy of photographing.
If you like quietness and nature, you can visit the Dalin Village. Dalin means happy racecourse in Tibetan, where villagers plough and graze with the changes of the four seasons, and stay with Namcha Barwa Peak all day long.
Dalin Village retains the original ecological scene, which still maintains a quiet and lazy appearance. Autumn in Dalin Village is beautiful. If you arrive at the right time, you can also see the autumn harvest scene of local villagers.
The best time to visit Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon is March to October with pleasant weather.
