Securing a spot in this prestigious race is highly competitive. For the 2026 event, over 206,000 hopeful runners entered the initial drawing for just 35,000 bibs, resulting in an overall chance of entry of approximately 10.73%. Registration typically opens in mid-September of the preceding year, with a multi-week window for applications before a computerized lottery determines the final participant list.
The registration fee is standardized at 200 RMB for domestic runners (including Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan) and 80 USD for international participants. It's crucial to note that the Xiamen Marathon is now an exclusively full-marathon event (42.195 km); the half-marathon option has been discontinued.

1. A More Inclusive and Flexible Entry System
To make the lottery system fairer and more efficient, a new multi-round waitlist mechanism has been introduced. Runners who are initially unsuccessful in the draw can now join a waitlist. If confirmed runners withdraw, waitlisted applicants are offered spots in sequence, significantly reducing unused bibs. The race also honors its community with reserved spots: 1,500 entries for Xiamen residents, 500 for female runners not selected in the first draw, and another 500 for runners who have been unsuccessful in the lottery for three consecutive years.
2. A More Efficient and Safer Start
To manage the large field of 35,000, the start procedure has been meticulously refined. The corral system has been upgraded from "6 waves and 12 zones" to "8 waves and 17 zones". The first five waves will start at 5-minute intervals, followed by the last three at 6-minute intervals, with the final wave beginning at 7:48 AM. This staggered, spacious start minimizes crowding and allows every runner to settle into their pace more comfortably and safely.

While elite competition is fierce at this Platinum Label race, 2026 places unprecedented emphasis on celebrating amateur athletes. A brand-new Age Group Award has been established. Runners will be categorized into five age groups (20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+), with separate categories for men and women. The top eight finishers in each of these ten groups will receive cash prizes, ranging from 600 to 3,000 RMB. Furthermore, the race record bonus has been reinstated to motivate top-tier athletes to chase history on the new course.

The event is backed by robust infrastructure: 13 timing points, 16 aid stations, and a volunteer force of 5,700. Medical support is comprehensive, featuring 17 stations, 905 personnel, and over 140 mobile AED units. Beyond the race, the city embraces a festival atmosphere. The 7th China Marathon Expo runs from January 8-10, and the charming "Gulangyu Breakfast Run" on January 10 offers a relaxed 7km warm-up.
