Spring in Datong

Autumn in Datong

Autumn comes, and the temperature falls gradually. The Autumn sky is clear and sunny. Datong’s frosty weather appears in the last ten days of September.

Autumn is widely considered the most beautiful season in Datong. The dry, cool air and abundant sunshine create a crisp and calm atmosphere perfect for travel. From late September onward, frost begins to appear, marking the beginning of the city’s transition to winter. This early frost is typical due to Datong’s altitude and northern location. Leaves turn golden along the mountains and ancient temple grounds, making this a favorite season for photography enthusiasts. Daytime temperatures remain pleasant through October, but nights can become cold, so visitors should bring a warm jacket. Autumn is also one of the best times to explore the Yungang Grottoes, as the lighting conditions make the stone carvings particularly stunning.
