How to Get to Dazu Rock Carvings

Dazu Rock Carvings is located in Dazu District in the northwest of Chongqing, 160 kilometers away from Chongqing in the east and 269 kilometers away from Chengdu in the west. The Chengdu-Chongqing Railway, Chengdu-Chongqing Highway, and Chengdu-Chongqing Expressway pass through the southern border. The highways connecting the main scenic spots are all high-level, and the main scenic areas are all secondary roads.

From downtown Chongqing, it usually takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to reach Dazu by public transportation. There are mainly 3 ways for you to get to Dazu, such as by bus, high-speed train and join a guide tour. How to Get to Dazu Rock Carvings?

 

► From Chongqing West Railway Station or Shapingba Railway Station, you can take a direct high-speed train to Dazu South Station. The journey takes 26-33 minutes, with a second-class seat costing around 40 RMB and a first-class seat around 64 RMB.

► From Dazu South Station to Scenic Spots
After arriving at Dazu South Station, walk 100 meters to the bus stop and take No. 204 bus to Qinglian Culture Square Station (about 40 minutes). Then transfer to the Dazu Rock Carvings Tourist Shuttle Bus to Baoding Mountain Rock Carvings (about 40 minutes). The shuttle bus operates from 06:30 to 18:00, with departures every 50 minutes aproximately.

Alternatively, you can take a taxi from Dazu South Station to Baoding Mountain Rock Carvings directly, which takes about 30 minutes and costs 50-60 RMB.
 
Note: The last high-speed train from Dazu South Station back to Chongqing is around 20:57, so please reserve at least 2 hours for the transfer from the scenic spot to the station.
 

By Bus

►From airport

If tourists who are flying to Chongqing, they can find long-distance buses at Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport going to Dazu District. However, Dazu District is not the same as the scenic area itself. After arriving in Dazu, travelers still need to take the special tourist bus to Dazu Rock Carvings or a taxi to reach the main scenic spots such as Baodingshan. 

When buying tickets for Dazu grottoes, you had better make it clearly because there is a place called Dazhu (similar pronunciation in Chinese) in Sichuan. This kind of coach will stop at several places: Youting, Shuangqiao and Longshui and finally to the Dazu county. Also it will stop on the road if passengers are flagging in the street. Generally if it goes well,  it takes about 1.5-2 hours to reach the terminal--Dazu county old bus station.

 

►From bus station

There are frequent buses to Dazu District from Caiyuanba Long-Distance Bus Station and Chenjiaping Long-Distance Bus Station, with departures every 30 minutes. The fare is about 45-50 RMB per person, and the journey takes around 2 hours. Buses run from early morning until 20:00, and you can buy tickets in advance via the "Yukexing" official WeChat account to avoid queuing.

After getting off at Dazu Bus Station, walk to Longgangshan Bus Stop and take the Dazu Rock Carvings Tourist Shuttle Bus. It costs 3 RMB to Baoding Mountain Rock Carvings (about 40 minutes) and 2-3 RMB to North Mountain Rock Carvings (about 15 minutes). The shuttle bus departs on schedule and does not wait for full seats. There are supermarkets near the bus station where you can buy food and drinks at reasonable prices, as items in the scenic area are slightly more expensive.

 

By Taxi

If you don’t want to take bus you can also take taxi in the Dazu county. Not to hail a taxi around the old bus station, because the drivers may overcharge from customers. Normally taking taxi to Baoding town from Dazu county is 30 Yuan. If you are a solo traveler, we suggest you to take bus which is more cost-effective
