One of the most famous mountains in Shanxi Province with stunning scenery and rich culture
Mianshan Mountain, also called Jieshan Mountain, is adjacent to Pingyao Ancient City and Shuanglin Temple, connects with Wang Courtyard and Zishou Temple in Pingyao. It's 20 km from the downtown Jiexiu city and has the highest height attitude of 2566.6 meters. It is national 4A tourist attraction and Shanxi's key scenic spot collecting the beauty of the rivers and mountains, famous historical relic, Buddhist temples and revolutionary sites together. Also it is China's famous historical and cultural mountain, the source of Chinese Tomb-sweeping Day, the research center and museum of Tomb-sweeping festival culture.
Mianshan Mountain enjoys good fame at home and aboard, attracting numerous tourists for thousand of years. It is famous for its natural sceneries with lots of classical allusion. It is abrupt with steep precipices and cliffs, green pines and verdant cypresses. It has numerous beautiful natural scenes like green hills and fantastic rock peaks.
Over hundreds of natural caves are great wonders. The Embrace Abdomen Cave embraces over 200 palaces and houses, and over 1000 tourists in its abdomen with its about 2000 years history and civilization, which can be said to be the best cave in all the land. The Rabbit Bridge, Deer Bridge, Overline Bridge, Ancient Scaling Ladder, Iron Chain Ridge, and Sheshen Cliff all are breathtaking and thrilling. Mianshan Mountain has successively developed waterfalls in different shapes. There are hundreds of big or small apiaries springs, also there is pendulous natural stone milk which tastes sweet. Here, the Qin Dynasty ancient cypress, dragon juniper, tiger juniper, rabbit juniper, beer juniper and original cypress forest form a "cypress kingdom" like a fairyland.
Longtou Temple
Longtou Temple is one of the best place to know about the history and culture of Mian Mountain. At the Longtou Temple, you can see Yude Hall, Guan Yu Temple, Zhenwu Temple and the Southern Gate. At the Longtou Temple, you can see the inscriptions of many famous articles of ancient China. And Longtou Temple is also a good place to enjoy the stunning sea of clouds and sunset at Mian Mountain.
Longji Ridge
Longji Ridge is located in the ridge of the mountains. It is warm in winter and cool in summer. At the Longji Ridge, you can know about the Daoist culture and military stories of Longji Ridge.
Daluo Palace
Daluo Palace is a Daoist building. Daluo Palace was built by the mountain, the buildings are magnificent. Covering an area of over 30,000 square meters, there are 13 storey of Daluo Palace, which is 110 meters tall. It is called the Potala Palace of Shanxi. There are sculptures, inscriptions and halls in the Daluo Palace.
Heaven Bridge
Heaven Bridge is named after the plank road built on the cliff, with a history of more than a thousand years. The Heaven Bridge is more than 300 meters long and over 1 meter wide, which is about 80 meters from the summit. It is more than 300 meters from the bottom.
At the Heaven Bridge, you can see Dongshen Palace, Zushi Hall, Qizhen Hall, Shuimu Hall, Hanging Corridor, etc. In addition, there is the most dangerous military fortress in ancient China: Shile Village, which is steep and easy to defend but difficult to attack.
Yunfeng Temple
Yunfeng Temple, also known as Baofu Temple, has a history over 1,700 years, which was built in the Three Kingdoms Period. It was named Baofu Temple because it is built on the Baofu Rock. At the Yunfeng Temple, you can see the Daoist halls, sculptures and inscriptions of Tang, Song, Yuan and Ming dynasties. You can get to the Zhengguo Temple from Yunfeng Temple.
Zhengguo Temple
Zhengguo Temple is the highlight of the Mian Mountain. There are 8 statues at Zhengguo Temple, which are well-preserved. The Lingying Tower is 69 meters high, which is magnificent. At the Zhengguo Temple, you can know about the history and culture of Mian Mountain. And you can also visit the halls and buildings at the Zhengguo Temple.
Qixian Valley
Qixian Valley is a popular valley in Mian Mountain, where you can hiking on the valley and waterfalls. There are jagged rocks of grotesque shapes and picturesque streams at the Qixian Valley. It is a challenge to climb the stairs to go through the Qixian Valley. At the Qixian Valley, you can see Fenghou Pavilion, caves, waterfalls, rocks, springs and other buildings.
Jiegong Ridge
At the Jiegong Ridge, you can see the Jiegong Tomb, Jieshen Temple and other scenic spots. Jieshen Temple is located in a natural grotto, which is 18 meters tall, 30 meters wide and 28 meters deep.
Shuitao Valley
Shuitao Valley is the most picturesque attraction in Mianshan Mountain. At the Shuitao Valley, you can see many waterfalls of different shapes.
1. Take the shuttle bus to the Shuitao Valley, walk to the Erlong Xizhu of Shuitao Valley, then get back to the ticket office.
2. Take the cableway to the Jigong Tomb(介公墓) and Jieshen Temple(介神庙), then go to visit the Qixian Valley(栖贤谷).
3. The seniors and children can take the elevator down, and tourists can walk down the Qixian Valley, experiencing walking over the waterfalls.
4. Take shuttle bus to Zhengguo Temple(正果寺) from Qixian Valley, take the elevator down, and walk to the Yunfeng Temple(云峰寺). On the way, you will pass by a hanging plank road.
5. Take the shuttle bus from Yunfeng Temple to the Heaven Bridge(天桥).
6. Take the shuttle bus to the Daluo Palace(大罗宫), which is called the Potala Palace of Shanxi.
7. Go to visit the Longtou Temple(龙头寺).
8. Take the shuttle bus to get back.
Mianshan Mountain is always beautiful in different seasons. And the best time to visit Mianshan Mountain will depend on the scenery and travel experience you prefer.
