City with stunning natural view and vibrant Tibetan culture
Kangding, a world's famous historic and cultural city, is the economic, political and culturela center of Garze Tibetan Autonomous Region in Sichuan. Kangding is located on the west edge of Sichuan Basin Area. It is situation in the key point of Sichuan-Tibet high express. It is the tie to connect the Han ethnic area of the Tibetan area, possessing the important position in politics and economy.
It is a city populated by significant proportions of both Tibetans and Han, and is part of the historical Tibetan region of Kham. A raging river splits the city, thus the constant sound of water emanates throughout much of the city. The city features a sizable city square where young and old alike gather in the early hours of the morning to do Tai Chi, play badminton, or socialise. This square comes alive on the weekends as well, when families tend to populate it. Traditional Tibetan and Sichuanese restaurants are easily found throughout the city. A Tibetan Buddhist monastery sits on the mountains overlooking the city, and is accessible by cable car. As of October 2006, a stone amphitheatre is under construction at the upper monastery.
You might find Kangding a little chillier than many other places in China. The climate is best described as monsoonal, bringing heavy rains in the months from June to early September. Monthly daily average temperatures range from −2.2 °C (28.0 °F) in January to 15.5 °C (59.9 °F) in July; the annual mean is 7.09 °C (44.8 °F). Over the course of the year, there are 177 frost-free days and 1738 hours of sunshine.
With an altitude of 5,820 meters, Yala Snow Mountain is located in the junction of Kangding City, Daofu County and Danba County. Yala Snow Mountain is friendly to all kinds of travelers, where you can see snow mountain, glaciers, forests, grasslands and lakes.
In spring, you may see the wildlife at the Yala Snow Mountain. In summer, the grasslands and forests are lush and green, and you can see the colorful flowers on the grasslands. In autumn, you can see the golden grasslands and colorful forests. In winter, you can see the pure white world at the Yala Snow Mountain.
Mugecuo Scenic Area, also known as Kangding Love Song Scenic Area, is located in Yala, Kangding, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan Province. At Mugecuo Scenic Area, you can see the Seven-Color Lake, Rhododendron Valley, Mugecuo Lake, Medicine Pool Boiling Spring, Red Sea Grassland and Red Stone Beach. Mugecuo Lake is one of the largest lakes in Western Sichuan.
In May and June, you can enjoy the colorful rhododendron flowers in Rhododendron Valley. In Mugecuo Scenic Area, you can see the lakes, grasslands, springs, forests the Mount Gongga in the distance. At the Mugecuo Lake, you can know about the love story of the lake and enjoy the surrounding landscapes of Mugecuo Lake.
Xinduqiao is one of the most popular and beautiful places in Kangding and Ganzi. Located in Kangding, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan Province, Xinduqiao is 78 kilometers from Kangding, which is about 2 hours’ drive. And Xinduqiao is just located near the National Highway 318, which is one of the most famous and beautiful highways in China.
Xinduqiao is the paradise of photography lovers and many photography lovers and painters come here to catch the beautiful light and shadow. The best time to visit Xinduqiao is summer and autumn, and Xinduqiao in autumn is particularly beautiful in autumn. In autumn, the grasslands are golden and the forests are colorful at Xinduqiao. At Xinduqiao, you can see the characteristic Tibetan-style houses, blue sky, white clouds, streams and colorful forests.
Tagong Scenic Area is located in Tagong Town, Kangding, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan Province. Tagong Scenic Area mainly includes Tagong Grassland and Tagong Temple. Tagong Grassland is near Kangding. June to August is the best time to visit the Tagong Grassland with lush grasslands, free flocks and herds, colorful flowers, blue sky and white clouds. And if you are lucky enough, you may see the horse race of traditional festival here.
Tagong Temple and Muya Golden Tower are important part of Tagong Grassland. The red and golden architectures make the Tagong Grassland more beautiful and charming. Standing on the Tagong Grassland, you can see the Yala Snow Mountain in the distance. The lush grasslands, golden and red temples, flocks and herds and white snow mountain compose of a picturesque picture.
The best time to visit Kangding will depend on the scenery you prefer. If you want to enjoy the magnolia flowers in Kangding, you can visit Kangding in March and April. And if you want to enjoy the rhododendron flowers, you can visit Mugecuo Scenic Area from April to June. In summer, the weather of Kangding is fine. And you can see the lush grasslands, magnificent snow mountain, free flocks and herds, etc. And Xinduqiao in autumn is a paradise for photography lovers with golden grasslands, clear water, colorful forests, characteristic Tibetan style architectures and wonderful light and shadow.
A Day Trip in Kangding: Mugecuo Scenic Area or Xinduqiao
If you only have a day in Kangding, it is recommended that you spend a day in Mugecuo Scenic Area or Xinduqiao.
Two Days Trip in Kangding
Day 1 Chengdu-Kangding-Tagong Grassland
Day 2 Tagong Grassland-Gunong Village-Xinduqiao-Chengdu
On the first day, you will drive to Kangding and Tagong Grassland from Chengdu. Then you will visit the Tagong Grassland.
On the second day, you will visit the Gunong Village from Tagong Grassland. After visiting the Gunong Village, you will visit the Xinduqiao, with wonderful view on your way to the Xinduqiao. Then you will get back to Chengdu.
