Furong Cave

Chongqing Wulong Furong Cave, China National AAAA level tourist area, China national key scenic area, national geological parks in China. Its huge body, rich cave sediments not only conquered the world cave experts, also welcomed by many visitors. More than 70 kinds of secondary chemical sediment to make this rich landscape, which is majestic, exquisitely carved, luxuriant and make people dizzying.

Environment

Furong Cave is a large limestone cave, located in Chongqing Wulong County, about 190 km from downtown Chongqing. It was regarded as “the most beautiful place underground” in China. Furong Cave has more than 70 kinds of secondary chemical sediment to make rich landscape, which is majestic, exquisitely carved. And it was hailed as “a colorful brilliant underground art palace.”

Furong Cave formed in about 120 years ago, with stability temperature of 16.1 degrees in deep hole. It has large-scale body, varied and rich secondary physical-chemical sediment in cave, various karst caves form, spectacular collapse accumulation, many stalactites, all of these are record of its historical evolution process of vicissitudes of life.

The main attractions are Golden Halls, Leifeng pagoda, Fangs crystal flower, animal kingdom, underwater dragon temple, large waterfall, and coral jade pool, etc.

Geography

Furong Cave has two chemical types of rock, carbonate rock and sulfate salt rocks types, and it has wide variety and colorful types of sedimentary, almost contain all sedimentary types including stalactites for more than 70. Such as: stalactites, stalagmites, stone pillars, coral crystal flowers, etc. Its mineral composition is mainly calcite and gypsum, aragonite, water magnesite stone, and there are many number of most species with perfect form, widely distribute. This landscape currently found in the country, is the most unique, and some types are even rare in domestic, and rare in the world. Furong Cave in 1994 was rated as China’s top cave in more than 100 caves, praised with a reputation for the “king of the cave”, is recognized as the most beautiful scenery in underground.

Transport

【Passenger car】
There are shuttle bus to the Furong Cave in Chongqing Nanping bus stop.

【Self-driving】
Self-driving is more convenient, there is three kilometers road outside the Furong Cave which connects directly to the entrance of state road 319, via visiting exit.

 

 

Main Attractions

Stalactite Groups: Inside the cave, stalactites appear in countless forms, including stalagmites, stone pillars, stone curtains, and stone waterfalls. Famous sites such as the Golden Palace Hall and Leifeng Pagoda resemble a splendid underground palace.

Coral Jade Pool: Covering an area of about 30 square meters, this pool is filled with coral-like calcite crystal flowers, creating a shimmering underwater world. It is regarded as the largest of its kind in the world and serves as the cave’s most iconic landscape.

Giant Stone Waterfall: A magnificent combination of a stone curtain and a stone cascade, measuring 15.76 meters wide and 21.04 meters high. The flowing lines of the stone curtain and the grandeur of the stone waterfall resemble a real waterfall pouring down.

Source of Life: A peculiar stalactite shaped like a male reproductive organ, powerful and full of vitality, standing as one of the cave’s most unique formations.

King of Stone Flowers: Covered with delicate needle-like and dogtooth-shaped calcite crystals, this pure white cluster is exquisite in structure and extremely rare worldwide. Among them, the largest group is hailed as the King of Stone Flowers.

Furong Cave is often called a “Natural Museum of Cave Science”. With over 70 types of secondary chemical deposits, it covers almost every form of speleothem, including stalactites, stalagmites, coral crystal flowers, stone curtains, and more. Its mineral composition includes calcite, gypsum, aragonite, and hydromagnesite, making it an invaluable site for the study of karst landforms and cave formation. The cave not only has great tourism appeal but also provides important scientific research material for geologists.

Visiting Experience

A Summer Resort: The cave maintains a stable temperature of around 16°C all year round, offering visitors a naturally cool and pleasant environment, especially in summer.

Lighting Effects: Colorful lighting highlights the stalactites, creating a dreamlike atmosphere and enhancing the visual impact of the cave formations.

These secondary chemical sediments form dazzling landscapes, with dozens of breathtaking scenic spots inside the cave. Notable attractions include the Golden Palace Hall, Leifeng Pagoda, Jade Pillar Holding up the Sky, Jade Forest of Crystal Flowers, Dogtooth Crystal Bloom, Millennium Kiss, Animal Kingdom, Underwater Dragon Palace, Giant Stone Waterfall, Stone Pearl Field, Source of Life Pillar, and the Coral Jade Pool.

The mineral composition mainly consists of calcite and gypsum, along with aragonite and hydromagnesite. Due to the richness, rarity, and wide distribution of these formations, Furong Cave has been recognized as a site of immense geological significance, with some types considered unique in China and rare in the world.
