Natural Scenery

Dehang Grand Canyon

Surrounded by towering cliffs, jagged peaks, and deep ravines, Dehang is a masterpiece of karst landforms shaped over millions of years. Streams flow through the gorge, waterfalls cascade down the cliffs, and lush vegetation paints the valley in shades of green. Walking through the canyon feels like stepping into a traditional Chinese ink painting.

Liusha Waterfall

The Liusha (Flowing Gauze) Waterfall is one of the most iconic sights in Dehang. With a drop of 216 meters, it is among the tallest waterfalls in China. Water tumbles down from the cliffs like a silver ribbon, creating mist and rainbows when sunlight hits. During windy days, the spray floats in the air like a soft veil, giving the waterfall its poetic name. To reach it, visitors can follow the trail along Jiulong Stream for about one hour, passing small cascades and bridges along the way.

Tianwen Platform & Pangu Peak

Tianwen Platform, located at the end of Yuquan Stream, is one of the most awe-inspiring viewpoints in Dehang. Legend says the ancient poet Qu Yuan once stood here, contemplating the heavens and composing his poem “Tianwen” (Questions to Heaven). From this vantage point, visitors can overlook the entire canyon and feel the spiritual power of nature and culture blending together.
Nearby Pangu Peak, rising over 700 meters, has a unique double-humped shape resembling a gourd. It’s an excellent spot for panoramic photography of the valley below.

Cultural Experience

Traditional Architecture

Dehang Miao Village is built along the mountainside, featuring the Miao people’s signature Diaojiaolou houses — wooden dwellings supported by stilts. These elegant homes are decorated with carved windows, wind-and-fire walls, and covered corridors. Walking through the flagstone alleys and over ancient bridges offers a glimpse into the harmony between people and nature that defines Miao architecture.

Miao Drum Culture

Dehang is known as the “hometown of the Miao drum.” The drum is central to Miao festivals, weddings, and celebrations. Drum performances are powerful and rhythmic, expressing both bravery and joy. The village has produced several “Drum Kings,” and visitors can still see traditional drumming shows in the central square.

Miao Costumes and Silver Ornaments

The Miao people are famous for their exquisite craftsmanship. Women’s traditional clothing is richly embroidered and dyed with indigo or wax-resist techniques. Their dazzling silver jewelry—including crowns, necklaces, earrings, and bracelets—is handmade by local artisans. These ornaments not only symbolize beauty but also reflect Miao beliefs about happiness, protection, and family honor.
